Remembering Rabbi Pinson

On Thursday evening, there was a gathering marking the end of the shloshim of the late head shliach in Tunisia Rabbi Nissan Pinson, who served in his position for 42 years.

In the afternoon, Rabbi Pinson’s family, friends, and students visited his final resting-place on the Mount of Olives. Later on, the memorial ceremony was held at the Heichal Yaakov Shul in Kiryat Moshe, Jerusalem, attended by the Sephardi Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar, Rabbi Meir Mazuz, Rosh Yeshiva of Kisei Rachamim, and Rabbi Dovid Lieberman, Chief Rabbi of Antwerp, Belgium. Also present were Rabbi Yitzchok Yehuda Yuroslavsky, secretary of Beis Din Rabbanei Chabad, Rabbi Yosef Gerlitzky, director of the Chabad House in Tel Aviv, Rabbi Boruch Yurkowitz, Rav of the Chabad community in Lod, and Rabbi Yaakov Yitzchok Pinson, shliach in Lod.

During the evening, people recalled Rabbi Pinson’s mesirus nefesh and his steadfast devotion to his shlichus. Rabbi Pinson often referred to himself as “Eved Avraham Anochi,” adding the words, “Eved Shel HaRebbe.”

Rabbi Pinson brought various sefarim and articles from Tunisia and Morocco to the Rebbe. He once gave the Rebbe an ancient document said to be written by a disciple of the Arizal, and when the Rebbe saw it, he stood up from his chair and said, “This really was written during the time of the Arizal.”

Also present at the gathering was Rabbi Pinson’s widow, Rebbitzen Rochel Pinson, and the speakers also praised her for her mesirus nefesh and dedication to helping her husband with his work.
